Gulp!!! 365 day ago today I was at home sitting in my favourite lounge chair minding my own business when my bestie who was sitting on the other side of the room yelled out ‘How you doing over there Telly Tubby?’ My darling then chimed in and exclaimed that she loved my ‘dad bod’ because there was a lot more to love (bless, that’s unconditional love for you). I couldn’t really be angry at either of them because they were just stating the obvious….. I had let myself go! That night I sat down and thought ‘what the fuck is wrong with this picture?’ These days I spend most of my time helping anxiety sufferers all over the world heal themselves. My programme is based around challenging limiting beliefs, destroying bad habits and developing empowering mindsets through routine, persistence & perseverance, yet here I was, a proper fatty! Clearly I wasn’t practicing what I was preaching! Even though in so many areas of my life I was kicking arse, it was obvious that I wasn’t taking care of myself. And of course I had become an 'excuses' expert; ‘I’m too tired’, ‘I spend all my time looking after our boys, my darling and my students, I don’t have time to think about exercising and watching what I eat’, ‘I don’t have the time to eat properly’, ‘I’m too busy’, 'I'm too tired', ‘I’m too injured’, ‘I’m too old’, 'it's too windy', 'too hot', 'too cold', …… you know, the usual suspects. I had become a slave to cravings and habitual comfort eating, I had become completely sedentary. And I hated it. I mean I didn’t hate me, I hated my behaviour (big difference). I realised if I can’t fully embrace and live by The Golden Rules (Building Blocks 4) in ALL areas of my life, if I can’t lead by example, how can I expect my students to be inspired to follow the Golden Rules and push through their own limiting beliefs? It dawned on me that I needed to take a leaf out of my own book and start practicing what I was preaching…… and that was 365 days ago today! Through embracing the Golden Rules I was able to break down my old limiting beliefs and through persistence, perseverance, routine (among other things) I was able to destroy my BS habits that weren’t serving me. My cravings soon disappeared, and soon after that the habit of comfort eating also disappeared. Once I passed through these barriers and let go of limiting beliefs, everything was a piece of piss from then on. My body started rejecting processed foods, I started gravitating towards whole foods. My energy levels increased. Because I was no longer a slave to comfort eating, I only ate when I was actually hungry (known as ‘earned hunger’), AND I found I was eating smaller portions. Now, because I was a fatty, and because I was now eating less AND better foods, I had opened the gateway to my fat stores, so my body was dipping into the mountains of fat I had on my body to burn up as energy…. this by the way is a potent (dense) form of energy, which is why I was experiencing more vigor and bounce! Another positive side effect was that I was becoming more productive because I was more alert, I could concentrate for longer periods..... I was being powered by my potent fat stores! And here we are, 365 days later, practicing what I preach..... and maybe a little bit lighter (23 kg's!!) Obviously there is a bit more to it than that. If you want to know more about the Golden Rules (Building Blocks 4), reach out for help. The Golden Rules are not just designed to help those suffering from an anxiety condition (GAD, OCD, PTSD, panic attacks, anxiety related phobias), they will also help anyone wanting to overcome addictions or bad habits. The answer, the biggest part of the puzzle lay in your mindset and beliefs that you CHOOSE to buy into. Understand habituation, understand how the mind works, understand causality, and the rest is a piece of piss! It's not easy airing out your dirty laundry for the world to see. I want to thank one of my students for being willing to share his story, his journey so that it may inspire other anxiety sufferers to take action. Thank you Dexter.
When one of my students Abhi reached out to me he had been suffering from GAD (and eventually panic attacks) for 15 years. He lived in a constant state of worry and unease. His recurring depressive and bizarre thoughts were centred, among other things, around getting old and dying. At the height of his anxiety condition, not only could he no longer sleep, but he started suffering from panic attacks while breathing and drinking water! Holy sh..! Two pretty important things right there and he’s struggling to do them! Imagine that!! Abhi had been to doctors and shrinks, and had been taking medication for years. Over time things were just going from bad to worse. Out of desperation Abhi’s wife turned to Amazon and found my book attackpanic. She bought it for Abhi, and after reading it, he reached out to me, and subsequently joined my 4 week one to one coaching program in the beginning of 2018. The rest is as they say history, but I should step aside and let Abhi tell his own story from here. If you are a sufferer of GAD, anxiety or panic attacks and it is starting to restrict or even destroy your life, you might want to take some time out to watch the interview below to hear Abhi’s story. I am very grateful to Abhi for his willingness to air his dirty laundry out for the world to see, but feels it will be worth it if it inspires others to step up to the plate and take action.
In the next series of posts, I will be sharing lessons from my online course which breaks down anxiety and anxiety conditions. The first of these lessons explains exactly what anxiety really is. It’s not only very important foundational information for anxiety sufferers, but also very useful for non sufferers as well. If you are an anxiety sufferer, empower yourself with self belief and confidence that you can be well again by going on through these lessons. When you understand what’s really going on, you are more likely to step up to the plate and take a swing, you are more likely to do what you fear, what you have been avoiding all this time. I trust you will get alot out of these lessons.
I hope yesterday's lesson (insight #9 - What is Anxiety) was very informative and helpful for some of you. Today's lesson (insight #10) from my online course delve into how anxiety conditions are formed, very interesting stuff. Back in the day, learning and understanding all this foundational stuff was critical to building up my belief and confidence to be able to do what I had been avoiding for so long. If you suffer form an anxiety condition and are stuck, this lesson, along with all the other upcoming insights might just be what you are looking for in order to get you moving forward, taking action and start doing what you have to do, doing what you know you should do.
The last couple of insights discussed Anxiety and the formation of Anxiety conditions. The next few insights drills down into the various forms of anxiety conditions (GAD, OCD, PTSD, panic attacks). Today's insight explains exactly what GAD is. If this sounds like you, take a look, I'm sure you will get alot out of it. There might even be some 'aha' or lightbulb moments.
Today's insight is a lesson from my online course on OCD. If you know anyone who is struggling with this one, please share.
